For the Phalon fleet, we have a new ATTACK CRUISER - a Battlecruiser-sized strike ship - and two Transports or Fleet Auxiliaries, all sculpted by Dave Garnham (who did the original Phalon vessels for us many years ago). The transports can be used as tankers, supply ships or even assault carriers - the spheroids "budding" off the hulls could easily be  ablative-shielded drop pods, Hu'Man intelligence is not quite sure yet.....

5/25/2007 - The new FSE SDN shows up, with more info from Jon (GZG)....

Just master-moulded today, we'll be making production moulds straight after this Bank Holiday weekend, so it'll be available for sale after Tuesday 29th, price 12.00 GBP.

The pics in white are of the original master sculpt prior to casting, showing the 5 parts that the mini is made up from; the grey-primered one is a first off metal casting from the master mould with a quick spray coat!

If anyone is placing an order with us this weekend (remember that the 3 introductory pack deals on NSL ships end on Thursday 31st, see our news post from last week) and wants to add one (or several!) of the new FSE SDN as a pre-order, just ask for them in the "comments" field at the online checkout and we'll add them to the order.

4/17/2007 - The rest of the fleet of new NSL minis will be released on Saturday the 21st at Salute:

The following NEW items will be launched at Salute this Saturday (21st); they'll be up on the webstore next week for online ordering. We'll have stock of all these at the show, plenty of the NSL ships but probably only a very limited number of the new 15mm vehicles, so if you're coming along then come and see us as early as you can!

This effectively completes the new-style NSL fleet, though we may add just a few more odd classes and variants (support ships, variant fighter types etc) at some point soon.

3/29/2007 - More deals for the new NSL miniatures but no pictures yet...

NEW-STYLE NSL SHIPS:

The "new NSL" CL, BC, BB and BDN are all now available, which means that we now have all the classes out for the full NEW-STYLE NSL MEGAFLEET (and thus also the Starter Fleet deals, the Intro Fleet packs and the FT-Pak3 Battle Squadron)!

These pack deals are going up on the webstore today, and the individual ship codes will follow in a couple of days once I've had the chance to assemble and take pics of the latest ships.

3/13/2007 - Jon of GZG has released some teaser pictures of the new NSL miniatures in the works, the new SDN, CH, CE, Corvette and Scoutship.  Click on the thumbnails for larger versions.

These are the first castings out of the master mould, quickly assembled and primer coated. Production moulds will be done over the next few days, then they'll be available!

For scale/size reference, the cutting mat on which the pics were taken is a centimetre grid.

10/2/2006 - From GZG:

After fifteen years continuously in print, our last stock of printed Full Thrust rulebooks is finally exhausted. As the book (along with the Fleet Book supplements) has already been available as a FREE pdf download for some while now we won't be printing any more copies of the 2nd Edition. So, as well as deleting the hardcopy book itself from our store, we've also had to remove the old FT Pak 1 starter deal, which included a copy of the rules along with two small starter fleets. To replace this, we're now offering a NEW basic FT intro pack deal, to get you started with a couple of small forces - plenty for some quick games to get the feel of the rules. The Ravagers - Rim Pirates!

Savage bands of marauding outcasts operating from barely-habitable planets outside even far-flung limited settlements of the Outrim Worlds. Run by a confusing and ever-fighting selection of feudal warlords, they exhibit no kind of government structure beyond who has the biggest gun at the time. With barely-spaceworthy ships cobbled together from old hulls refitted with scavenged weapons and drives, the Ravagers are the scourge of small outrim settlements and unescorted merchant shipping...

Pirate Cruiser: the size of a typical naval Heavy Cruiser, the Pirate Cruiser is usually the command ship of a raiding force. The Cruiser class generally has a moderate armament suite, plus considerable spare cargo space for loot and captives, and is equipped with powerful (if not terribly reliable) drives in order to catch targets and evade defenders.

Pirate Raider: typically the size of a small Destroyer, the Raider class of Pirate ship is most frequently used on solo missions to pick off isolated civilian shipping or attack small planetary settlements, but is also encountered in groups (often accompanied by a Cruiser or two) for dealing with larger and better-defended targets.

Pirate Attacker: a small, fast attack ship the size of a military strikeboat, normally used to "swarm" a target and disable it, or to take on escorting ships. Attackers almost always work in conjunction with Raiders and Cruisers, as the tiny Attacker boats don't have much spare space for hauling away their ill-gotten gains.

Rim Pirate forces don't plan on taking on naval units except small convoy escort craft if they can help it, so they generally don't have particularly heavy armament suites, but they do carry specialised weaponry designed to incapacitate ships and/or their crews without actually destroying them. Needle Beams (to pick off individual systems on a target ship) and EMP weapons (to cause system failures without damaging the hull or cargo) are both common on Pirate vessels, along with a selection of more conventional beam and missile weapons for when a stand-up fight is inevitable.

It is not known for certain where the Rim Pirate Warlords acquire their ships from, but the fact that many of the ships encountered bear strong resemblance to each other (albeit with many minor differences in fitting-out and details) tends to suggest that there is at least one shipyard facility still operating somewhere on the Rim which is producing basic hulls to simple, outdated designs and selling them to the warlords, who then fit them out with whatever they have available in the way of scavenged and captured weapons, drives and systems. Many of these systems, especially drives and power cores, often appear to be dangerously unstable - but as drive room crews are mostly slaves and pressganged captives, this seems of little concern to the Warlords - and there is always another ship and crew to replace those that blow up!

Out of interest, I think these are probably the fastest concept-to-production minis we've ever done - I decided I wanted to do them on Sunday morning, sculpted them during the day, made the master mould first thing Monday morning, took the piccies from the first-off master castings, then made the production mould that afternoon and had saleable castings half an hour later... less than 36 hours from idea to production!
